Seven parades lined up across Sandwell for Remembrance Sunday

Sandwell will host seven parades on Remembrance Sunday, 13 November 2022, as people from all faiths and backgrounds across the borough’s six towns unite once again to honour those who served in the two world wars and later conflicts.

Organised by the Royal British Legion and community groups, with support from Sandwell Council, the parades will be followed by services where the two-minute silence will be observed by war memorials at 11am.

On Armistice Day, Friday 11 November, the Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Richard Jones, will lead the two-minute silence at Oldbury War Memorial in honour of our armed forces heroes.

Remembrance Sunday services with parades will take place at the following locations:

• Great Barr: St Margaret’s Church, Chapel Lane
• Oldbury: Oldbury Civic Square, Halesowen Street/Church Street
• Rowley Regis: Rowley Regis Crematorium, Powke Lane
• Smethwick: Smethwick Council House, High Street
• Tipton: Victoria Park, Victoria Road
• Wednesbury: Memorial Gardens, Walsall Street
• West Bromwich: Dartmouth Park, Lloyd Street

His Worship, the Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Richard Jones, said: “I am delighted that this year we will once again be able to come together to honour the men and women who sacrificed their lives for the peace and freedom that we enjoy today.

“We will always remember them!

“I would also like to thank the Royal British Legion for their work in organising these commemorative events and supporting the armed forces community. I would like to encourage people to donate generously to this year’s Poppy Appeal.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the remembrance events. Temporary road closures will be in operation for parades and services.
